NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN PURSUANT TO N.C.G.S § 163A-769 by the Board of Elections of Currituck County, North Carolina, that:

A General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 to vote in the following contests: President and Vice President, U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, Governor, Lieutenant Governor, N.C. Attorney General, N.C. Auditor, N.C. Commissioner of Agriculture, Commissioner of Insurance, Commissioner of Labor, Secretary of State, Superintendent of Public Instruction, N.C. Treasurer, N.C. Supreme Court Chief Justice and Associate Justices, N.C. Court of Appeals Judges, N.C. Senate, N.C. House of Representatives, N.C. District Court Judges, Currituck County Commissioners, Register of Deeds, Board of Education and Soil and Water Conservation Supervisor. The polls will be open on Election Day from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.

Voters voting in person are entitled to assistance by an election official or a near relative, or, if assistance is needed due to disability or illiteracy, by a qualified person of their choice.  All voting sites are accessible to all voters.  Curbside voting is available for voters who are not able to enter voting sites.

PHOTO ID: Voters WILL NOT be required to show photo ID when they vote in the general election on November 3, 2020.  In a December 31 order, a federal district court blocked North Carolina’s voter photo ID requirement from taking effect.  The injunction will remain in place until further order of the court.

REGISTRATION:  All voters in Currituck County who are registered to vote are eligible to vote in the Primary Election and need not re-register. Those residents of Currituck County who are not registered to vote must register by October 9, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. in order to be eligible to vote in this election. Voters who fail to timely make a change in name or address in the county must update the information when presenting to vote, and may be required to vote a provisional ballot.

BY-MAIL NO-EXCUSE ABSENTEE VOTING:  Registered voters may vote by mail.  Absentee voting by mail begins September 4, 2020.  The deadline for requesting an absentee ballot by mail is by 5:00 p.m. on October 27, 2020.  Requests for an absentee ballot must be made using the State Absentee Ballot Request Form. Forms are available online on the North Carolina State Board of Elections website and in the Currituck County Board of Elections office. You can also request an absentee ballot online at

ONE-STOP NO-EXCUSE ABSENTEE VOTING:  Registered voters may vote in person at the Currituck County Judicial Building in Courtroom “C” at 2801 Caratoke Highway, Currituck, during the one-stop voting period which begins Thursday, October 15, 2020 and ends Saturday, October 31, 2020. One-Stop voting hours are as follows: Weekdays, 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Saturday October 17 and 24, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday October 31, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. PLEASE NOTE: The early voting location was changed to Courtroom C after the Focus On Currituck fall edition was in production. One-Stop will not be held in the Board of Elections office.

BOARD OF ELECTIONS MEETINGS: The Currituck County Board of Elections will meet at the Board of Elections office at 2811 Caratoke Highway, Currituck, on the following dates to review Absentee Ballots for the 2020 Primary Election pursuant to N.C.G.S. § 163A-1308: September 29, October 6, 13, 20, 27 at 9:00 a.m., November 2 at 5:00 p.m. and November 10 at 9:00 a.m. Canvass of the election will be held in the Currituck County Board of Elections office at 2811 Caratoke Highway, Currituck, on Friday, November 13 at 11:00 a.m.
