November
Senior Center Happenings

The Currituck County Senior Centers; Barco, Knotts Island and Powell’s Point are places designed to give Senior Adults in Currituck the opportunity to meet other seniors, receive services geared towards seniors and participate in activities that will affirm their dignity and self-worth.

With that in mind each month the staff produces a newsletter to inform citizens of available programs for that month. Please take the time to read what the Senior Centers are doing this month.

When we all work together the senior centers are an “enjoyable and a happy place” for EVERYONE!

Eligibility Requirements for Medicare

You can enroll in Medicare if you meet at least one of the following…

  • You’re 65 or older
  • You meet certain disability requirements
  • You receive benefits from the Social Security Administration (SSA) or the Railroad  Retirement Board (RRB)
  • You have end-stage renal disease (ESRD) or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease)
Medicare Ask Yourself…
  1. Does the plan cover the services you need?
If you have other types of health or prescription drug coverage, make sure you understand how that coverage works with Medicare.
  2. What does the plan cost?
Lower is not always better – consider things like the cost of premiums and  deductibles, how much you pay for hospital stays and doctor visits and whether it’s important for you to have expenses balanced throughout the year.
  3. Are the plan’s  providers and rules convenient?
    Your time is valuable.
    Where are the doctors’  offices?
    What are their hours?
    Which pharmacies can you use?
Can you get prescriptions by mail?
  4. What plans perform the best?
    Look for 5-star performance ratings.
