  • Currituck County Public Libraries are open to the public.
    • Barco and Moyock Libraries open
      Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
    • Corolla Library open
      Monday – Wednesday and Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
      Thursday, 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
  • Curbside Service is still available at all Currituck County Public Libraries
    Monday – Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
    Staff is available to check out materials, make copies and send faxes.
  • Adult Reading Challenge

    Read Across the Board and join the Adult Reading Challenge at the Barco, Corolla and Moyock Libraries.

    Pick up a challenge card, choose books from any or all of the 16 categories on the Reading Board and receive raffle tickets for chances to win prizes.

    The more categories you read in, the more tickets you earn! The challenge is on now through Friday, October 29, 2021.

  • Fall Storytime for Toddlers and Preschoolers

    Every week from Monday, September 13 to Friday, November 19, 2021 stop by the Barco, Corolla and Moyock Libraries to pick up a Preschool or Toddler Storytime Packet.

    Preschool packets are for children aged 3 – 5 years and Toddler packets are for children aged 18 months – 3 years. Each packet includes early literacy activities that you can complete at home!

  • 1000 Books Before Kindergarten

    Available beginning Monday, September 13, 2021, a self-paced program for babies, toddlers, & preschoolers that celebrates learning and the fun of sharing stories! Studies have shown that reading with your child provides exceptional opportunities for bonding and learning.

    Read 3 stories a day and you will have read over 1,000 books in a year! Any and all books count; even those favorites that are on repeat may be counted toward your grand total.

    Sign up at your local Currituck County Public Library location and you will receive a reading log to track your first 100 books. For every 100 book milestone, your child will receive a small incentive and a new reading log. Once you’ve reached 1,000 books, your child will receive a certificate of completion and a prize!

  • Introducing “Book Tour” Monthly Subscriptions

    Ready to travel? Open a book! Beginning Monday, September 13, 2021  you can subscribe to take a monthly Book Tour at the Barco Library. “Book” your reservation at the library, fill out a few “passport” questions, and we’ll pair you up with the perfect reads which will be ready on the first weekday of the month.

    Each Book Tour kit is a monthly, themed experience and subscriptions are limited so make your reservations now. Who knows where you’ll go?

  • “Pumpkin Daze” Harvest Hullabaloo To-Go

    OMG (Oh My Gourd)! We’re in a pumpkin daze! Pick up a Pumpkin Activity Packet at the Barco Library during the month of October and learn all about everyone’s favorite gourd.

    Children will get a slice of pumpkin history, a pumpkin recipe to make, science experiments and crafts!

    Suitable for children of all ages with grownup help.

  • Thanksgiving “Horn of Plenty” To-Go

    During the month of November children can pick up a Horn of Plenty Activity Packet. They’ll learn all about cornucopias and early Thanksgiving foods, make a horn of plenty craft and practice thankfulness.

  • Homeschool To-Go
    During the months of October and November, stop by the Moyock Library to pick up a Homeschool Packet and accompanying STEAM activities that you can complete at home!
    • October: Agamographs
      Discover the optical illusions created with agamographs! Create a unique pattern while learning about angles and measuring.
    • November: Mason Jar Science
      Explore the science behind plants by conducting several fun science experiments.
  • Genealogy Courses On Demand

    Currituck County Libraries now offer 6 different Genealogy courses on demand! Hone your genealogy skills at your own pace, at a time that works for you. Each course is a self-paced video, available for individual viewing at the Barco or Moyock Libraries anytime during our normal business hours.

    An optional 30-minute question and answer session after course completion with our Genealogy Specialist is also available at the Moyock branch.

    Appointments for the optional Q&A (Question & Answer) session are recommended to ensure availability.

    Course offerings include an Introduction to Genealogy for beginners (with an optional companion paper-based course upon request; this course is also available for checkout on DVD), a 4-part series on genealogical records (court records, estate & probate, land & property, and vital/other records) in Currituck County and a Guide to the Formation of Currituck County.

    Courses may be taken individually, in any order, or all at once, depending on your needs and level of experience with genealogy research.

    Remember to pick up our Genealogy “Kid’s Kit”!  The kit includes:
    • a family history booklet,
    • family tree charts,
    • family member interview questions,
    • a family tradition worksheet
    • and more.
    It’s a great way to encourage children to become their very own future family historians.  Bring your completed bingo card back to the library and receive a special surprise!
