April at the Senior Centers

Currituck Senior's ExercisingThe Currituck County Senior Centers; Barco, Knotts Island and Powell's Point are places designed to give Senior Adults in Currituck the opportunity to meet other seniors, receive services geared towards seniors and participate in activities that will affirm their dignity and self-worth.

With that in mind each month the staff produces a newsletter to inform citizens of available programs for that month. Please take the time to read what the Senior Centers are doing this month.

When we all work together the senior centers are an "enjoyable and a happy place" for EVERYONE!

Exercise for Healthy Joints

Exercise can help you lose extra pounds and maintain a healthy weight. Activities that get your heart rate up - can reduce joint swelling! If your joints bother you, opt for exercises that won't give your joints a pounding. Instead of step aerobics, try low-impact exercises such as swimming or bicycling.

Another healthy idea: Don't sit still! Folks who remain glued to a chair all day long have a high risk for joint pain. Less movement means more stiffness in your joints. So get up and get moving. Change positions frequently. Take frequent breaks at work, and stretch or go for a short walk.

Tammy's "Did You Know"...

Spring is just around the corner! With spring comes allergies; Sometimes serious for seniors! Here are a few tips to help with allergies this season...

At the first sign of allergies; runny nose, cough, itchy eyes, call your doctor. Over the counter medicine might not be what you should be taking if you take prescribed medications.

Ask your doctor for the latest treatments for allergies. There are new treatments coming out all the time for seniors.

Be aggressive with your treatment. Don't wait, thinking they will go away! This can cause other complications. Get treatment as soon as you can!
