Currituck County Rural Center Facility Rules & Regulations

Currituck County Rural Center is for the enjoyment of Currituck County residents, property owners and their guests. For the safety and enjoyment of all patrons, the following rules and regulations govern the Currituck County Rural Center.

The greatest possible use thereof is encouraged, subject only to such rules and regulations as will preserve the parks and public areas for purposes for which they are laid out and the enjoyment, convenience and safety of all concerned.

Rules & Regulations

  • Currituck County Rural Center is a public facility and, with the exception of the indoor and outdoor arenas which may be reserved, all other park facilities are available on a first come basis. The entire park may be reserved for special events.


  • Currituck County Rural Center is open 7 days per week, year round. The Center opens at 8:00 a.m. and closes at sunset. Gates are locked at closing.

    After Center closing, any individuals remaining or coming into the Center will be considered trespassing and subject to criminal prosecution.

    Vehicles remaining in the Center after closing will be locked in and not available to owners until next Center opening. The County is not responsible for the safe keeping of such vehicles. Special events are excluded from this provision.


  • Alcoholic beverages and illegal drugs are not allowed. Smoking is prohibited in buildings located on the grounds.


  • Currituck County Rural Center is a dog friendly facility. All dogs on the grounds must be on a leash and controlled at all times. Dogs must have current vaccinations and owner must be able to produce a copy of same upon request by county officials or their designees.

    Dogs participating in special events such as agility course work will be exempt from the leash requirement during the course of the event.

    Dogs are not permitted in the buildings located on the grounds.

    Owners are responsible for waste cleanup and disposal.


  • Firearms, hunting, and abusive language/behavior are not allowed. Special events may request special ermission to use blank firearms. Concealed or unconcealed weapons of any type are prohibited.


  • Hitting golf balls is not permitted.


  • Fishing is permitted in the two ponds and the canal in conformity with state and federal laws.

    Swimming and wading are prohibited.

    No motorized water craft is allowed. Kayaking, canoeing and remote control water craft is permitted in the canal.


  • All vehicles including bicycles must be parked in parking spaces provided.

    Bicycling, roller skating, roller blading and skate boards are permitted within the Center area.


  • Golf carts are permitted for use by licensed drivers during scheduled events.


  • Motorized hobby equipment (model cars and airplanes, go-carts, motorized trail bikes, all-terrain vehicles, minibikes, etc.) are not allowed.


  • Park grills are designed for charcoal only. Charcoal should be left in the grills after cooking for disposal by county personnel.

    Personal cooking grills no larger than 24-inches in diameter are allowed but may not be used under any shelters.

    It is unlawful to gather and burn wood.


  • Vendor cooking trailers and equipment are allowed in a designated vending area.


  • Amplified music is permitted at the Center, but the volume will be monitored by county employees. If the sound is too loud as determined by the county employee, the Center patron shall turn the sound down or be asked to leave the Center.


  • Nailing decorations to any Center structure is not allowed. Taping decorations is permitted.


  • No one may charge a fee to enter or use the facilities of the Center unless a user agreement is signed and thus considered an event promotion.


  • Arena areas may be rented on an hourly basis by reservation and payment of the hourly rental fee.


  • Park patrons are encouraged to observe the Park's waterfowl and other wildlife.

    However, handling, harassment or capture of wildlife is prohibited.


  • The recreational facilities are provided by the Currituck County Rural Center.

    However, patrons should bring their own athletic equipment, kayaks, canoes and other boating equipment.


  • Overnight camping is permitted in association with a scheduled event.


  • Violation of any of the Rules and Regulations may result in the expulsion of the patron with possible denial of future privileges.
