Fishing in Ponds and Canal

The Currituck County Rural Center is located in Currituck County in Powells Point, NC off North Spot Road. The Rural Center is maintained for the education, cultural and recreational enrichment of the public and for the benefit of the citizens and visitors of Currituck County.

The greatest possible use thereof is encouraged, subject only to such rules and regulations as will preserve the parks and public areas for purposes for which they are laid out and the enjoyment, convenience and safety of all concerned.

Start your visit at the Main Office Visitor Center where you will find information, brochures, rules and regulations and a site map. The building is open 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Our friendly staff will help start your visit by answering questions and providing you with the above mentioned items.

Fishing  - Rules and Regulations

  • All persons must have a valid NC Fishing License
  • Follow State and Federal Laws
  • Handling, harassment or capture of wildlife is prohibited. 
  • No motorized water craft is allowed
  • Kayaking, canoeing and remote control water craft is permitted in the canal.
Fees

There is no charge for fishing in ponds and canal.

In order to maintain a safe atmosphere for our clients, we will only remain open only with supervised staff on hand. When the construction at the park is complete, we will offer extended hours without a reservation and supervised staff will not be a necessity.

Reservations may be made by calling North Carolina Cooperative Extension office at 252-232-2262.  Please call by Wednesday to schedule weekend fishing.
