Major Changes to the Personnel Policy

  • Staff in permanent status may only file grievances for final written warnings, dismissals and/or if they feel they have been subject to discrimination, retaliation or workplace harassment.
  • Disciplinary action has step-by-step guideline.
  • Probationary staff are allowed to file grievances only if they feel they have been subject to discrimination, retaliation or workplace harassment.
  • There is a new Problem Resolution Procedure for issues not subject to Formal Appeal.
  • Staff working in regular position working 30-39 hours per week will receive leave accruals and longevity pay (provided employment is satisfactory).
  • Staff can only donate accumulated vacation leave for shared leave. Sick leave is no longer accepted. 
  • Policies now have more examples as to what falls under each section i.e. lists examples of workplace harassment, personal conduct, job performance.
  • Dress code is defined. Defines accommodating beliefs.
  • Substance abuse policy has been streamlined.
  • Employees hired on/after January 1, 2017 will not be eligible for County-paid insurance at retirement.
