CAMA Land Use Plan - 2006
The Currituck County Land Use Plan is prepared in accordance with the requirements contained in the North Carolina Coastal Area Management Act (CAMA). It is intended to provide a framework that will guide local government officials and private citizens as they make decisions affecting development.
The Land Use Plan contains information about the physical appearance of Currituck County as it exists today, what direction the County should take in the future and the steps that need to be taken to get there. By serving as the overall "blueprint" for the development of Currituck County, the implementation of the Land Use Plan will result in the most suitable and appropriate use of the land and provision of public services.
Corridor Plan - 1994
The 1994 Corridor Plan identified and examined the impact of future development along NC 168 and US 158 (Caratoke Highway). The goal of this planning document is to encourage development patterns that enhance community appearance, promote economic development, and provide for the safe and efficient movement of traffic.
The Plan was prepared for the Board of Commissioners by a 15 member citizen committee, with the support of the Planning Department.
Development Review Process Manual
To help consolidate the development process and promote efficiency, the Board of Commissioners has established the Development Review Process Manual as an aid for citizens, public officials, engineers, and developers. The manual includes information on review processes, submittal procedures, and design/review requirements. It also provides an overview of county zoning districts, including common uses and residential densities.
The basic intent of the manual is to consolidate the zoning review and decision making processes outlined in the Unified Development Ordinance in an easy to use and understandable document. This approach allows development review procedures to be applied flexibly and remain reflective of changing economic and environmental conditions.
Flood Insurance Study
This countywide Flood Insurance Study (FIS) Report was produced through a unique cooperative partnership between the State of North Carolina and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
The State of North Carolina has implemented a long-term approach to floodplain management to decrease the costs associated with flooding. As a part of this effort, the State of North Carolina has joined with FEMA in a Cooperating Technical State (CTS) agreement to produce and maintain this FIS Report and the accompanying digital Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) for North Carolina.
Maple-Barco Small Area Plan
Maple-Barco Small Area Abbreviated Plan
On July 20, 2009, the Board of Commissioners adopted the County's first small area plan in the Maple-Barco vicinity. A small area plan is specific to a well-defined geographic area and includes considerable detail and specific objectives.
The plan itself is not a regulatory document, but rather recommends official policies and regulatory actions. This plan represents the official policy direction of the Board of Commissioners and will preserve the integrity of the Maple-Barco communities by planning for and strategically balancing future development and economic growth.

Water Quality Enhancement Study
This study identifies land parcels within Currituck County that have a potential to improve water quality through land conservation and restoration efforts. Protecting the health and cleanliness of surface waters is important to all residents, and this study will guide county officials in ranking properties that might eventually be placed in conservation.
This report was funded through grants obtained by the North Carolina Coastal Federation and North Carolina Coastal Land Trust.
